C.G. Conn New Wonder C Melodyは、1915年から1922年にかけて製造されたサックスです。
一般的なアルトやテナーとは異なり、C調(コンサートキー)で製造されているため移調せずに演奏できるのが特徴です。大きさもC Melodyはアルトよりも管体が長くテナーよりコンパクトです。
またConnの特色であるマイクロチューニングシステムが搭載されております。
サウンドはアルトよりも落ち着いており、テナーほど低音が強調されない柔らかく穏やかな音色が特徴です。
ジャズやクラシックに適した響きを持ち、現代のサックスとは異なる独特のキャラクターを備えています。
現行のサックスと比べると、サイズ感やキーのレイアウトに違いがあり演奏には少し慣れが必要です。特にG♯キーやサイドキーの配置が独特で指のポジションに違和感を覚えることもあります。ベルの形状やトーンホールの配置が独特で息の流れやレスポンスが現行のサックスとは異なります。

History
The C.G. Conn New Wonder C Melody is a saxophone produced between 1915 and 1922.
Unlike standard alto or tenor saxophones, it is pitched in the key of C (concert pitch), allowing it to be played without transposition. In terms of size, the body of the C Melody sax is longer than that of an alto, but shorter than a tenor.
It also features Conn’s signature microtuner device.
The sound is more subdued than that of an alto, and softer and gentler than a tenor, without emphasizing the low end as much.
It offers a tone well-suited for both jazz and classical music, with a unique character that differs from modern saxophones.
Compared to modern saxophones, it has a different feel in terms of size and key layout, which may require some adjustment for players. In particular, the placement of the G♯ key and side keys is quite unusual, and players may find the finger positions unfamiliar. The shape of the bell and the arrangement of the tone holes also differ, affecting both airflow and response.
