KING Voll True は1928年から1932年頃に製造されていました。
KINGのサックスの歴史を辿る上で後に登場する Zephyr や Super 20 の基盤となり、KINGサックスの新たなスタートとなった重要なモデルです。
Voll True の前には H.N. White Model が存在し、そこから22箇所の機構が変更・改善されました。すべての変更点を把握することは難しいですが、トーンホールの広さや位置・付属のマウスピースの改良が行われたことが分かります。
またVoll True からはフィニッシュのパターンが増え、シルバーモデルにゴールドの装飾を施すなどデザイン面にも変化が見られました。
KINGは演奏者の意見を取り入れ改良を重ねながら発展してきたメーカーであり、22箇所もの大幅な変更が加えられたのはこの時代のサックスとしては非常に珍しいことです。
サウンドは低音が深く響き、太く力強い音色が特徴です。
現行モデルと比較すると、手にフィットする感覚が強い設計となっています。同年代のSELMERのモデルのように脇を締めて構えないと吹きづらいサックスが多い中で、KINGはより自然な姿勢で演奏できるよう考えられています。
ただしキーワークの位置には改良の余地があり、特にレバーやサイドキーの位置は若干遠く感じられる部分があります。
それでも当時のサックスとしては比較的使いやすいモデルです。
KING Voll True はKINGのサックスが本格的に進化を遂げるきっかけとなったモデルです。大幅な改良が加えられたことにより、KINGのサウンドと設計の礎を築き後の名器へと繋がっていきました。

The KING Voll True was produced from around 1928 to 1932.
It was a key turning point in the history of KING saxophones, laying the foundation for later iconic models like the Zephyr and Super 20. This model marked a fresh start for KING, both in design and sound.
Before the Voll True, KING had the H.N. White Model, but with the Voll True, 22 mechanical changes and improvements were made. While it's difficult to identify every single change, noticeable updates included wider and repositioned tone holes, as well as an improved mouthpiece.
The Voll True also introduced more finish options. For example, some silver-bodied models featured gold-plated decorative touches, adding a new level of visual refinement.
KING was a forward-thinking company that took musicians' input seriously and made continuous improvements to its instruments. Making 22 significant changes at once was highly unusual for saxophones of that time, highlighting the company's innovative approach.
In terms of sound, the Voll True is known for its deep, rich low end and a thick, powerful tone.
Compared to many other saxophones of the era—especially models like SELMER’s, which often required a more tucked-in playing position—the KING Voll True was designed to be played more naturally, with a key layout and feel that better suited the hands.
That said, the key placement wasn’t perfect. Some of the side keys and other key mechanisms may feel slightly far away, but for its time, it was still considered a relatively player-friendly instrument.
Overall, the KING Voll True was the model that really started KING’s journey as a serious saxophone maker. With many design improvements, it set the foundation for the unique KING sound and build quality that later famous models became known for.
