特徴としてベルやネック部分には十字架のデザインが施されております。またネック部分を留めるネジが正面に付いていたり、ローラーキーの配置や羽根のような形状のキーガードなど独自のデザインも特徴的です。

音色に関しては、渋さと明るさを併せ持ったはっきりしたサウンドが特徴です。現行サックスより音圧や音量で劣る部分もありますが、独特の響きと深みのある音色を持っています。

History

The Martin Magna, produced from 1956 to 1963, was the final professional model crafted by Martin, one of the “Big Three” American saxophone manufacturers. It was Martin’s final professional saxophone, crafted with all the skills and knowledge they had developed.

One of its most distinctive features is the cross-shaped engraving found on the bell and neck. Other unique design elements include a front-facing screw on the neck brace, offset roller keys, and wing-shaped key guards.

In terms of sound, the Magna has a clear tone that blends brightness with a touch of smoky depth. It might not have the same projection or volume as today’s horns, but its rich resonance and warm character give it a charm all its own.

There’s a noticeable difference in key layout and neck angle compared to modern saxophones. It may take some adjustment for players accustomed to today’s more ergonomic designs.
