SELMER Large Boreは1928年から1931年まで製造されていたモデルでModel 26の後に登場した、SELMERの歴史の中で重要な楽器です。
このモデルは、それまで続いていたModel 22やModel 26といった番号付きの命名から脱却しボア（管径）の拡大を特徴とした初のサックスとして位置づけられています。
この時期、SELMERは年間約2,000本のサックスを製造しており、そのうち約3分の1がアメリカ市場に輸出されていました。
アメリカでのジャズの台頭により演奏者たちはより大きな音量と明るい音色を求め、Large Boreはその要求に応えるために開発されました。
ネックと本体を接続する部分の差し込み口がわずか0.4ミリ拡大されたことでサウンドに劇的な変化をもたらし、このわずかな改良がジャズプレイヤーたちに大きな支持を得ました。
サウンドは、Model 26に比べて明るく輝かしい音色が特徴で音量が増したことも際立っています。
音の鳴りやすさが向上しており力強く豊かな響きが得られるため、ジャズの表現に理想的なサウンドを提供します。
その一方で、ヴィンテージ特有の味わい深さも持ち合わせており繊細な表現も可能なモデルです。
現行と比べると、Large Boreは演奏者にやや特有の構え方を要求します。脇を締め親指をまっすぐに構える必要があり、現行モデルと比べると持ちやすさや操作性の面ではまだ発展途上と感じる部分があります。
また、このモデルではトリルキー（特にHigh Fシャープキー）の部分がパール装飾に変更されておりそれが大きな特徴の一つです。
このモデルのボア拡大という構造変更は当時のジャズブームの影響を受け、より大きな音量と輝かしい音色を求めたプレイヤーのニーズに応える形で生まれました。

History
The SELMER Large Bore is an important instrument in SELMER’s history, produced from 1928 to 1931 as the successor to the Model 26.
This model broke away from the numbered naming system used in earlier models like the Model 22 and Model 26, and was the first SELMER saxophone to feature an expanded bore (tube diameter).
At that time, SELMER was manufacturing about 2,000 saxophones annually, with roughly one-third of them exported to the American market.
With the rise of jazz in the United States, players demanded greater volume and a brighter tone, and the Large Bore was developed to meet these needs.
The neck receiver—the part connecting the neck and body—was enlarged by just 0.4 millimeters, resulting in a dramatic change in sound. This slight modification earned strong support from jazz players.
Compared to the Model 26, the Large Bore features a brighter, more brilliant tone and increased volume. Its improved response produces a powerful and rich sound, making it ideal for jazz expression.
At the same time, it retains the nuanced character unique to vintage instruments, allowing for delicate tonal expression.
Compared to modern saxophones, the Large Bore requires a somewhat unique playing posture. Players need to keep their elbows tucked in and thumbs straight, and in terms of ease of handling and keywork, it feels less advanced than contemporary models.
Additionally, one notable feature of this model is the pearl decoration on the trill keys, especially the High F# key.
The bore expansion in this model was directly influenced by the jazz boom of the era, created to satisfy players’ demands for greater volume and a brighter tone.
The SELMER Large Bore remains an essential vintage saxophone when discussing the history of jazz.
