SELMER Serie 22は1922年に製造された、SELMER初のサックスです。
このモデルはSELMERの歴史の出発点となる非常に貴重な楽器であり、現存する個体は極めて少ないためヴィンテージサックスの中でも特に高い価値を持っています。
History
The SELMER Serie 22, produced in 1922, was the very first saxophone made by SELMER.
This rare and historically significant instrument marks the starting point of SELMER’s saxophone legacy. Very few of these horns have survived over the years, making it one of the most valuable vintage saxophones today.
Its sound is distinctive—slightly piercing in the upper register, yet rich with a smoky ambiguity that blends depth and warmth. Unlike the clear, focused tone of modern saxophones, the Serie 22 offers a more nuanced and delicate voice. That subtle ambiguity is what gives this model its unique charm.
Compared to contemporary horns, the Serie 22 feels more compact—closer in form to Adolphe Sax’s original designs—with unique octave key placement and side key shapes.
While it’s not as comfortable or easy to play as today’s models, its vintage design gives it a special character that really highlights its place as SELMER’s very first saxophone.
Produced for just a single year, the Serie 22 is considered a highly rare model—essentially a prototype of the later Model 22. Its serial number belongs to SELMER’s earliest production range, making it a true symbol of the brand’s beginnings.
